EL-7 OERSTED’S LAW APPARATUS

Oersted’s law states that a steady electric current creates a magnetic field around it.

Our apparatus comprises of a cobalt steel magnetic needle, with agate bearing.

The needle is pivoted in the centre of a rectangular frame made of a non-magnetic heavy gauge metallic strip.

The frame has fittings with 4mm socket terminals for electrical connections, at both ends.

The frame is mounted on an insulated rod with a circular wooden base.

When current is passed through the non-magnetic frame, the magnetic needle deflects, hence depicting oersted’s law.
