The purpose of the ignition system is to generate a very high voltage from the car's battery, and to send this to each sparkplug in turn, igniting the fuel-air mixture in the engine's combustion chambers.
The model is of an ignition system that is typically controlled by a key operated Ignition switch.
Various parts of the ignition system including the distributor (the rotating cams, breaker points, a condenser, a rotor and a distributor cap) , the ignition coil, the spark plugs, the battery, and the wires linking the various parts together, are clearly depicted in this model.
